System and Network Status

8.31.2010

The outages yesterday, 8.30.2010, were due to a substantial DDoS attack against one of our customers, involving traffic from 8,000-10,000 sources on a botnet, which has caused significant trouble both for us and at least two of our upstream providers (Qwest & Internap). We were able to isolate and null-route the effected customer equipment and IP space, but we had an additional differently-soruced DoS event this morning which we believe may be related. We have isolated and stopped this morning's activity and we are working as quickly as possible to investigate and fully determine the nature of the attacks to help in preventing any future activity.

Virus and Security Alerts

From time to time, unscrupulous individuals release annoying or destructive programs onto the Internet, generally via email attachments. Although we will attempt to keep our customers informed of major viruses and tips for eradicating them, your best method of protection is to never download and launch programs attached to email from unknown individuals, and to protect your computer with a security product such as Windows OneCare or Norton AntiVirus.

If you have any questions or concerns about the current system and network status, planned downtime, or need help with Internet security and protecting your computer against viruses, please contact us.
