The Collection (1994-present)With few exceptions, I started creating the artwork on this site ever since I moved to Boulder (Colorado that is)in 1995. Most of the work is figurative with some abstracts, portraits, and landscapes rounding it out. This is a small sample of the main body of figurative drawings and sketches which occupy my basement. BackgroundI studied painting for a few years at Boston University, enough to learn basic anatomy and design. I draw from the model three times a week for about three hours each day with the Boulder Figure Painting Group at the Crossroads Mall in Boulder. My landscapes and abstracts are done in sketchbooks that range in size from 3" x 6" to 11" x 14". I usually work on about five to six sketchbooks at once because I get bored with the same format after a while. Almost all of my figures are done on 18" x 24" 70lb smooth white drawing paper. Favorite media for drawing is charcoal. InfluencesSome of the artists who have influenced me the most are (in no particular order), Alberto Giacometti, Egon Schiele, Amedeo Modigliani, Michelangelo, Pablo Picasso, Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse, Lucien Freud, Richard Diebenkorn, Jim Dine, Giotto, J.M.W Turner, James McNeil Whistler, Frank Miller, Hiroshige, Gilbert and Jamie Hernandez, Jim Steranko, Stephen Ditko, Michael Golden. I grew up with comic books and always wanted to become a comic book artist. What could have been cooler than to draw Spiderman battling the Green Goblin? or the X-Men duking it out with Magneto? The Old Masters taught me to appreciate skill, draftsmanship and artistry. Asian art gives me the iconography and blueprint for my landscapes and abtracts. All these artists I admire for their honesty and dedication to their craft. For SaleFamily and friends get preferential treatment. If you're a family member or friend then you probably have no choice but to suffer at least one piece on your living room wall when I come to visit. Everyone else, feel free to offer me money. I'm not proud.
